The changing skies of France‘s Channel coast and the fashionable crowds on the resort beaches were Boudin‘s lifelong subjects. These pictures were avidly collected, ensuring the artist’s success. In 1863 he commented: “They love my little ladies on the beach, and some people say that there’s a thread of gold to exploit there.” (MET)
