The miter-shaped cutout of the painted surface at the top is original. Main register of an altarpiece from which elements may be missing, particularly in the upper part. Predella: The Dream of Innocent III, The Apparition of Saint Peter and Saint Paul to Saint Dominic, Saint Dominic resurrecting Napoleone Orsini, Christ standing in his tomb with the Virgin and Saint John the Evangelist, The Dispute of Saint Dominic and the miracle of the Book, The monks’ meal served by the angels, The death of Saint Dominic.
Perhaps painted for an altar inserted in the rood screen of the church of the convent of San Domenico in Fiesole, thanks to subsidies from the Florentine Gaddi family (cf. Strehlke [1994], p. 33-34, 39-40). (Louvre)
