Title: The Battle of San Romano: the counterattack of Micheletto Attendolo da Cotignola

Panel originally, it seems, finished in a bezel and provided with a cutout at the upper corners and at the lower left part to adapt to the architecture of a room, then, undoubtedly in 1484, mutilated at the top and completed at the level of the notches to take on a rectangular format. With Niccolò da Tolentino at the head of the Florentine troops (London, National Gallery), Bernardino Ubaldini della Carda unhorsed (Florence, Uffizi Gallery), is part of a series of three paintings relating the Battle of San Romano (1432), probably commissioned by Lionardo Bartolini Salimbeni (1404-1479) to decorate a room in his Florentine palace.
