Napoléon Bonaparte, First Consul, is shown distributing sabers of honor to the grenadiers of his guard after the Battle of Marengo (June 14, 1800).

In the center of the composition, Bonaparte, in a red coat on a white horse. Two grenadiers are represented in the right part: one holds the saber of honor that Bonaparte has just given him and the other holds the flags taken from the enemy. Troops march in the background. (Louvre)
