Napoléon Bonaparte is shown visiting the plague victims of Jaffa (March 11, 1799).

Bonaparte touches the tumor on the bare chest of one of the patients with his hand, the doctor tries to stop him and an officer holds his nose. In the left part, two orientals distribute bread to the sick. On the right, a blind soldier tries to approach Bonaparte. In the foreground, patients are in agony. (Louvre)
