On loan from Tate: Bequeathed by Mrs Edwin Edwards 1907.

This work was painted while Fantin-Latour was visiting Mr and Mrs Edwin Edwards in Sunbury near London in 1861. Also staying with the Edwards at the time were fellow-artists Matthew White Ridley and Thomas Armstrong, and the three artists devoted sessions to the study of still life painting. (NG)
