Watercolour from the European period, from Rezábal Bustillo, with a picturesque motif. The scene of the peasant couple will be a topic in the later work on customs in the Río de la Plata. Alfredo Garaño suggests that it was painted in Portugal due to “the nature of the terrain, the vegetation and the shepherdess’ clothing”. It should be dated to around the mid-1840s. It is likely that an engraving was used as a model. (Roberto Amigo | MNBA)
