Pissarro, Camille (1830-1903)

L’Oise à Pontoise au temps gris (The Oise in Pontoise in gray weather)
Oil on canvas, 53.5 x 64 cm
Museum Boijmans Van BeuningenRotterdam

Pissarro believed that ‘Everything is suitable for drawing, everything!’ He was true to his word when he painted this factory. Pissarro didn’t care much for industrialisation. He did not see the future of mankind in factories, but rather on the countryside. He mainly painted landscapes, sometimes in situ, as is the case here. (Boijmans)
