Commissioned by François I and executed in 1542–1543, in the workshop of the Hôtel de Nesle in Paris, with the assistance of the founders Pierre Villain and Guillaume Saligot for the assembly and the sculptors Thomas Dambry, Pierre Bontemps and Laurent Mailleu for the chiseling intended for the “Golden Gate” of the Château de Fontainebleau. After the disgrace and departure of Cellini in 1545, unfinished and abandoned in the workshop of Nesle. (Louvre)
