Monet’s son Michel and stepson Jean-Pierre stand on the bank of the Epte River near their home at Giverny. There, Monet gradually became less interested in Impressionism’s precise recording of natural phenomena, endeavouring instead “to reproduce something that exists between the subject and myself, the beauty of the air, something wholly unattainable.” (NGC)
