In the center of a room cluttered with paintings, Ambroise Vollard (1866-1939) sits on a chair with a small cat on his lap. His back is hunched, his head slightly tilted, one eye drooping, his posture betrays a certain drowsiness known to all who were accustomed to his company. To the lower left of the canvas hangs the “Portrait of Alfred Hauge,” and on the far wall, Renoir‘s “Reclining Women.” (Petit Palais)
