Louveciennes lies about sixteen kilometres west of Paris. Sisley painted many views of and around this village in the 1870s, and Monet and Pissarro also worked there. In this view, a light coat of snow covers the unpaved road, the roofs of the houses and the wooded hills in the background. The muted tones give the scene a soft atmospheric effect evocative of an overcast winter’s day. (Courtauld)
