Autoritratto (1908)

Boccioni, Umberto (1882-1916)

Autoritratto (Self-Portrait)
1908
Oil on canvas, 100 x 70 cm
Pinacoteca di Brera, Milano

The work, executed in 1908 in Boccioni‘s studio on Via Adige in Milan, offered the artist the opportunity to fully portray the landscape of Milan‘s suburbs for the first time. This landscape would later feature prominently in his works prior to his embrace of Futurism, and is also evident in the sketch for The City Rises.

The portrait was donated to the Brera Art Museum by Vico Baer, a friend and collector of Boccioni, in 1951. (Brera)
