Portrait of Hendrickje Stoffels (c.1654)

Rembrandt (1606-1669)

Portrait of Hendrickje Stoffels
c.1654
Oil on canvas, 74 x 61 cm
Musée du Louvre, Paris

Since 1883 (Bode), the model has passed convincingly to be Hendrickje Stofetls, the painter’s partner after Saskia‘s death in 1642. Typical Neo-Vetanian demonstration in the production of maturity and last years of the artist. The painting inspired Huysmans in Marthe, story of a daughter (Brussels [1876], p. 74-75). -to date around 1654. According to Gerson, perhaps the counterpart of the self-portrait of Rembrandt, dated 165 (4?), Preserved in Cassel (Lecaldano, n ° 321), but perhaps doubtful, which does not confirm hardly such a supposition (the Louvre has a copy, the R.F. 2667 bis).
