Scene taken from the Gospel of Saint Luke (XXIV, 13-33), in which Christ, the day after his resurrection, reveals his divinity to two pilgrims met on the way and sharing their meal with him; a theme often treated by Rembrandt (painting painted around 1628, Jacquemart-André museum in Paris; engravings from 1634 and 1654; student painting (?) in Copenhagen, dated 1648 like the INV. 1739; drawings in Cambridge (Fitzwilliam Museum ) and in Amsterdam; student painting, around 1660: see INV. 1753, etc.). Very personal assimilation of 16th century Italian culture. (Titian, Veronese, Vinci). (Louvre)
